The Avatar (Electroacupuncture According to Voll) is an energy medicine assessment instrument which utilizes the acupuncture meridian system to measure the electrical resistance at acupuncture points. Acupuncture is based on the principle that there is a network of energy channels, called meridians, throughout the body. Different organs are associated with different energy meridians, and health problems in various organs show up as disturbances of energy in the associated meridians.
Since the 1940s, research has established that acupuncture points possess electrical conductivity. German doctors, led by Reinhold Voll, M.D., measured changes in electrical conductivity at each of the body’s acupuncture points. They discovered that the electrical resistance of the skin decreases dramatically at the acupuncture points when compared to the surrounding skin. They also found that each point appeared to have a standard measurement for anyone who is in good health (when there is a steady flow of bioenergy, or qi, in the meridians). When health deteriorates, but often long before symptoms manifest, the measurement changes. Dr. Voll discovered that higher or lower readings than normal at a particular acupuncture point indicates a problem in the organ that corresponds to that acupoint; higher generally menas there is irritation and/or inflammation in the organ and lower usually indicates fatigue or degeneration.
The acupoints that correspond to specific organs and tissues are known as control measurement points (CMP) because they provide a general indication of the health of the organ or tissue as a whole. There are also specific points that indicate how the various parts of each organ are functioning. If the CMP for a particular organ gives a poor reading, the points for the various parts of that organ can then be checked. Whichever part of the organ shows an imbalance is the site of dysfunction.
To date there are over two thousand such points that have been established as having specific relationships with internal organs. A thorough analysis with the Avatar can, in a relatively short time, discover not only which organs have problems, but which part of the organ is malfunctioning and what other organs, if any, it is affecting. Thus, it becomes possible to find the root cause of any problem.
